Clinical psychological assessment in Brașov

Specialist clinical psychologist. Clinical psychology is the part about diagnosis and clarity. Before we talk about solutions, we need an accurate picture: what belongs to emotion, what belongs to cognitive functioning, what belongs to context, and what needs to be referred onward, to a doctor.

Many arrive at the practice after years of contradictory answers. One said it was stress, another that it was "nerves", another handed over a label with no explanation.

A clinical assessment puts an end to the confusion. And a result is never left untranslated: what it concretely means for your life, what can change and in how long.

Who answers you

Signed: Alina Robu

I am Alina Robu — specialist clinical psychologist, specialist integrative psychotherapist and specialist sexologist, with over 20 years of clinical practice. I am a doctoral candidate in psychology and neuroscience and co-founder of the BrainMap Institute, where, when useful, the psychological assessment sits next to the qEEG brain map. I assess with a structured clinical interview and standardised tests, and you receive the conclusion in writing.

I am a psychologist, not a doctor: I formulate a psychological diagnosis and a plan; I do not prescribe medication and I do not make medical diagnoses. When what I find belongs to a psychiatrist, a neurologist or another doctor, I say so directly, I write it in the report and I refer you there. I work with adults and adolescents at the practice in Brașov; the interview and the discussion of results can also be held online.

In short

What an assessment done properly looks like

Idea 1

Instruments, not impressions

A structured clinical interview and standardised psychometric tests. Not "it seems to me that", but scores that can be compared and repeated.

Idea 2

A written case formulation

You leave with a document, not with a conversation you forget: what is happening, why it persists, what we do and in what order.

Idea 3

The same complaint, two directions

A low attention profile means one thing if the brain map shows frontal slowing, and something else entirely if it shows a brain exhausted by hypervigilance.

How I work

Four steps, in this order

01

Clinical interview

History, context, current functioning, risk and protective factors.

02

Validated instruments

Standardised psychological tests for anxiety, mood, attention, personality and cognitive functioning.

03

Case formulation

A clear document: what is happening, why it persists, what we do and in what order.

04

Medical collaboration

When a doctor, psychiatrist, neurologist or other specialist is needed, I say so directly and refer you onward.

Natural questions

What people ask me before the first consultation

Why is a clinical psychological assessment usually requested?
For two reasons. One is administrative: you need a document for a board, for a medical file, for school or university, or for another specialist who asks for it. The other is personal: you want to know what is happening to you, after years of contradictory answers, or you want a second opinion on a diagnosis you already have. In both cases the assessment is the same; what differs is only what we write at the end, and for whom.
Do you issue psychological certificates for a driving licence, a firearms permit or employment?
No. The certificate for a driving licence, for firearms or for occupational medicine is an aptitude assessment, carried out by a psychologist certified in transport or occupational psychology, on standard forms. What I do is clinical assessment: emotion, attention, cognitive functioning and personality, with a written case formulation. If a certificate is what you need, I will tell you on the phone where to obtain it, so you do not lose a session.
What document do I receive at the end, and what is it for?
A signed and stamped psychological assessment report: what was assessed, with which instruments, what they showed, which psychological diagnosis holds up and what I recommend. It is written so that a psychiatrist, a neurologist, a family doctor or a board can read it, not only you. If you need it for a particular file, tell me from the start: I will word it around what that file requires.
How many meetings does the assessment take?
It depends on what it is for. As a rule two or three, one hour each: the first is the clinical interview, the second the testing with standardised instruments, and the third the discussion of results, when you also receive the report. For a precise question, such as a second opinion on data you already have, it can be fewer. When the picture is complex, with several diagnoses to clarify and tell apart, more meetings are needed. I tell you at the first session how many I estimate, so you know both the time and the cost from the start.
I already have a diagnosis. What does a “second opinion” mean?
That I re-read what you have: previous reports, medical letters, test results, the history. I compare them with what I see in the interview and, if needed, with new testing. At the end I tell you, in writing, what holds up from the conclusions so far and what does not, and what would be worth doing next. I do not contradict anyone for the sake of it: sometimes the second opinion confirms the first.
I suspect I have ADHD. What does the assessment include?
The developmental history, because ADHD begins in childhood even when it is recognised only in adulthood; specific scales for attention and impulsivity; and, just as important, what else could produce the same picture: anxiety, depression, poor sleep, exhaustion. Where available, the qEEG brain map is placed alongside. You leave with a clear direction: therapy, a doctor, or both. The formal diagnosis and the medication belong to the psychiatrist, with whom I collaborate.
Can it be done online?
Partly. The clinical interview and the discussion of results can be held on video with nothing lost. Some of the standardised tests, however, are administered at the practice, and the qEEG brain map is done only at the practice. If you are not in Brașov, I will tell you on the phone what can be done remotely in your case and what requires a visit.
Is it confidential? Who sees the report?
The report is yours. You receive it, and it reaches anyone else — a doctor, a board, a school — only if you take it there or ask me in writing to send it. I do not discuss the results with your family or your employer without your consent. The only exceptions are those set by law, when there is an immediate danger to you or to someone else, and I tell you about them at the first session.
How much does it cost, and is it covered by health insurance?
It is not covered: sessions are private and are paid in full in advance, online, by card, when you book. The fee is RON 500 for a 60-minute session, and an assessment usually means two or three sessions, more when the picture is complex; I tell you at the first session how many I estimate, so you know the cost before we go further. The written report is included, not charged separately.

Not sure this is the right field for you?

A first conversation clears up exactly that. You tell me what is happening, I tell you honestly which field the work belongs to and whether someone else is needed.
